“Venus in Fur” will be performed by Juan Mendoza and Kellyn Wooten, this year’s graduating Meisner class students of Lea Marlene Actors Studio’s acclaimed Sanford Meisner program. There will be four opportunities to catch this mysterious, funny, erotic drama:
“Venus in Fur” is a two-person play by David Ives set in modern New York City. This play-within-a- play is an adaptation of the 1870 novel Venus in Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, and had its premiere off-Broadway at the Classic Stage Company in 2010 and on Broadway in 2011. “Venus in Fur” features Thomas (to be played by Juan Mendoza), a beleaguered playwright/director, who is desperate to find an actress to play Vanda, the female lead in his new play. Suddenly at the last minute, a new actress, aptly named Vanda Jordan (to be played by Kellyn Wooten), bursts in and exhibits a strange command of the material. She convinces Thomas to let her audition for the part, and a dynamic reading of the script ensues that blurs the line between play and reality.
This “fast-paced journey into one man's entrapment by a clever, vengeful female" (Associated Press) was declared “ninety minutes of good, kinky fun” by The New York Times and a show that “invites both carnal and cerebral excitement...” according to the Village Voice.

DENVER DAY PLAYS
This is an exciting way to see live theatre that was created the very same day! The writers meet in the morning and each write a one act play, based off a theme and two head shots they are given. At 1PM, the actors, writers, and directors get together. The writers hand off an envelope, containing the two head shots and the script they’ve written, the directors get to pull the envelopes at random. At that point the rest of the team gets in on the fun as the quick rehearsal process begins. Later that night 5 one act plays open and close. It’s a fun event to participate in, as well as watch as an audience member, because you never know what will unfold!
